2017 SEAISI / MISIF Seminar On Innovative Approaches In Process Automation And Quality Assurance

2017 SEAISI / MISIF SEMINAR ON INNOVATIVE APPROACHES IN PROCESS AUTOMATION AND QUALITY ASSURANCE

Each year, the South East Asia Iron and Steel Institute (SEAISI) collaborates with the national committees of its member countries (MISIF in Malaysia) to organize a travelling seminar on topics of interest to the steel community in the ASEAN region. This year, the seminar will be held in Malaysia as follows:

Theme: Innovative Approaches in Process Automation and Quality Assurance

Topics:

1. Stable Supply of Molten Iron Using New Technology (Mr. Kazuki Tanaka from Kobe Steel, Japan)

2. Improvement of Quality Assurance on Billets by Enhancement of Process Automation (Mr. Chen Chien-Hung from Dragon Steel Corporation,

Taiwan)

3. Enhance Quality Assurance Through Operation Data Analysis (Mr. Cho, Dong-Hee from POSCO, South Korea)

4. Data Analysis Supporting Automation (Mr. Frank Perri from OneSteel, Australia)


The iron and steel industry is facing a challenging market situation such as overcapacity, slowing end markets, social pressure to reduce the carbon emission, rising energy costs, fluctuating raw material prices and so on. Therefore, steelmakers have to adopt various innovative approaches in order to sustain or to increase their competitiveness in the industry. One of them is to optimize the processes through process automation which could offer benefits of maintaining, the consistency in process parameters, improving plant availability, minimizing human errors, reducing wastes or rejection, increasing the safety of human and equipment, etc. besides, product quality is also crucial to sustaining the market competitiveness. Enhancement of quality assurance is a way to preventing delivery of defective products to the customers. It comprises many activities within the organization to fulfill the products’ or customers’ requirement.
